A special cake for Orla

Orla, aged 1, might just be my favourite customer.

Usually when I deliver first birthday cakes, it’s all about the family and friends. Little ones either bawl their eyes out, or don’t even notice the cake!

But Orla has restored all my faith in first birthdays. She was at the front door to meet me with the biggest goofy smile, happiest face and sparkliest birthday jumper you’ve even seen.

I opened the cake box and she giggled her little head off with complete joy.

The brief was to make a pretty cake for a blueberry obsessed 1 year old.

So I handcrafted a punnet of “fresh” blueberries to decorate the pale blue, lilac and pink cake.

Also the classic vanilla sponge and buttercream were blue. Of course!
