Golden Wedding Bells
Being the daughter of the Head of the Maths Department is no guarantee of a getting a numbers brain! I have always been OK with words but really terrible with numbers. They tell you when you’re at school that you’ll need Maths whatever you choose to do with your life. And it turns out - annoyingly - that it’s absolutely true. Even cake making needs a surprising level of Maths ability.
Thankfully my Dad didn’t teach me Maths for both our sakes - that job fell to Mr B who attempted to teach me Maths to O’level. It must have been an uphill battle to get me through my exams. But he did a great job.
And then 30 something years later all the memories come flooding back as Mr B asked me to make his Golden Wedding Anniversary cake. My first thought? Yes of course - what an honour - but do I still call you “sir”?
The big celebration was to be held at Rydal School (now Rydal Penrhos) in the Dining Hall (now Osborn Hall) where I enjoyed many school dinners all those years ago.
Congratulations Mr & Mr B. And big thanks to Maria and all the team at Rydal Penrhos.
Even the stained glass windows got the "golden" memo!
Mr & Mrs B chose a 2 tier celebration cake decorated in shades of yellow, gold and ivory handcut flowers and embossed stripes. Personalised with their names and wedding date, it made a beautiful centrepiece sitting in the stained glass window. They ordered matching cupcakes for their guests in salted caramel, chocolate chip, raspberry, lemon and spiced carrot cake to give a good variety for all ages and tastes.
What they said -
“We were blown away when we saw your celebration cake - it was beautiful. Thank you so much - you created a wonderful centrepiece for our wedding anniversary event. The cupcakes were admired by the guests too, and they enjoyed eating them! Your decoration of the cake was so detailed and everyone was most impressed. You have a lot of talent and we are so glad we asked you to create our golden wedding anniversary cake. Thank you once again.”
I love being part of special family occasions, working with my clients to understand their vision and work my magic to make their cake dreams come true! There’s lots more ideas and inspiration over in my Cake Gallery and I’d love to chat to you about your plans.
That’s all for now.
