A very special 80th birthday

When I first started my cake business, I never dreamed that flying a cake across the Irish Sea was even an option.

It’s not my first time (Dad 70), or my second time (Sister 50), or even my 3rd time (Niece 18) - it’s the 4th cake I’ve flown to Northern Ireland to a family celebration. And let me tell you, it’s a little less stressful now but no less heavy! It turns out Easyjet are quite relaxed about transporting cakes on their flights. As along as it’s in a sturdy box, and fits until the seat in front - they’re happy! Occasionally I get swabbed for suspicious substances, but mostly I just get smiles and offers of tasting.

Early this summer my lovely Mum turned 80 so our family gathered in Northern Ireland for a little celebration.

80th birthday cake

We settled on lemon poppy seed sponge filled with lemon buttercream, a family favourite, and one of the 10 choices on my Cake Menu. Decoration was Colour Mill Eucalyptus, shades of purple and a touch of ivory. BTW if you want to order a cake in these colours, you will be my favourite customer for life. I’m so in love.

Cake Details

We personalised the cake with the first line of one of her favourite hymns which brought enormous joy and great thankfulness for a life lived with God’s faithfulness.

Susan gets all the credit for the fabulous tablescape - shades of leafy green, twinkles of gold and the beautiful white china that comes out on special occasions!

A Word about Candles

I don’t normally supply candles with my cake orders but as it’s family I made an exception.

But remember, when you get to a certain age it’s polite to have just one candle per decade, and there’s less risk of burning the house down!

A lovely celebration was had by everyone, and the best news is that I don’t have to carry it home!

That’s all for now
